9th Circuit Asked To Reconsider Voter Registration Lawsuits

The Trump administration has asked the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to revive lawsuits against California and Oregon over access to voter registration data. 

Federal prosecutors argue that states are legally required to provide certain voter information to the federal government under election law.

The cases were previously dismissed, but the administration is now pushing to reopen them, claiming the states failed to comply with federal requests tied to maintaining accurate voter rolls. 

California and Oregon have defended their positions by raising concerns about privacy and state authority.

This legal battle could have broader implications for election administration, voter privacy, and the balance of power between federal and state governments ahead of future elections. 

Immigration advocates and civil rights groups are also closely watching the case because of concerns about how voter and citizenship data could potentially intersect with immigration enforcement policies.
